Robert Hirsch is Head of Municipal Office of Monuments Protection in Gdynia and Associate Professor at Gdansk University of Technology, Poland. Since the 1st of December 1989 works at The Department of History, Theory of Architecture and Monument Conservation of the Faculty of Architecture. In 2001 he defended his Doctoral Thesis “Medieval city walls of Pomorze Gdańskie”. Since 2000 Modernist architecture from the beginning of the 20th century has become a new area of research as a result of taking on a position of Municipal Heritage Protection Officer in Gdynia – the famous modernistic City. In December 2016 he was awarded a Doctor of Science title, with monograph “Protection and preservation of modernistic architecture in Gdynia” published by Gdansk University of Technology being considered as one of his biggest achievements. Since 2012 he is a Member of the Board of ICOMOS Poland.
